Day 4 Thursday

Due to the Grandma’s being at the temple on thurs, the mom’s were scheduled to take the kids to the zoo.  They met up with some more friends, and here are the pics!

Day 3 -- Wednesday

We started the day riding bikes in the heat of the day, started the goat cheese, painted volcanos, finished t-shirts, cooked cupcakes, sewed pillows and the ever popular beaded animals!  Whew!  That’s a lot of nothing!  And don’t forget singing and chanting the whole time!

Day 2-- Tuesday!

Day 2 of Day Camp started at Kim’s house right after lunch.  We had a late day because we were going to watch goats get milked and they do that at 6 am and 6pm—and we didn’t want to start at 6am.  Anyway, we got underway, and went to another field trip to Excelsior Springs Mo.  Who knew it has 46 separate mineral springs?  We saw the water bottling plant—and the personal collections of Keith Bowen.  He has collected lots of eclectic items—something for each kid to remember.  We went to the Hall of Waters.
He led us on a tour—and a behind the scenes, also.  It was fab and we loved learning about the therapeutic baths and all and the people who came to ES  to use them—Harry S Truman and FDR among them. 

Back to Kimberly Park Farms to check out Kim’s chickens, swim and shoot guns—our version of a triathlon.  USA  USA!!

We also tried to origami it.  With less success than we would like.  The problem was that the kids that could origami were doing other things.

and then we went off to see goats!  This family got goats because one of the kids-HA! wanted to have an animal, and the parents wanted the animal to be able to pay for itself!  They actually had a very hands on goat milking demo.  We learned all about keeping the goats and milking the goats, and ended the night with a cow milk and goat milk taste off.    

 

 Jocie—my favorite part was the goats—everything about them!  I wish I could have goats!!

Emmy—I liked swimming, the water and the goats!

Day Damp 2012 Monday

Day 1

We started with the news that our t-shirt idea wasn’t working… but with 8 grandkids looking at my sister and I, it’s time to start.  So first with the flag ceremony and pledge.  Then singing camp songs.  Each year we put together a book—always we leave out some songs—this year it was ‘Alice the Camel’ and ‘Little Bar of Soap’.  Everyone gets to choose a song—while I number the pages.  It’s the most fun to see the 2 year old go thru the pages like he can read so he can pick his song.  It’s an 18 page book! 

It’s time for the t-shirts!  Put cardboard in between the shirt. We have the front ready to silk screen and that went well.. Now to let that dry so they can be decorated!...

Up to start and decorate the water bottle holders. 

I used this blog, except burning the edges of the trim and sewing the ends.  With the kids help.  After they decorated the trim. 

Then off to hike around the temple.  Where we saw the hugest praying mantis!  Yikes. 

Kim wants to capture it for her garden.  Back to cook lunch with the kitchen help—Jocie and Emmy.  

We made pizza, carrot sticks, ranch, and brownies.  While the pizzas bake, the oven is putting put smoke like no other!!-the peach pie yesterday overflowed and now its burning.  YIKES!! 

After lunch,

 and it’s time for the obstacle course to get set up. 

 Then back to the garage for paper mache —this time volcanos. For 8 volcanos we used up 2 bags of flour mixed with water and 2 Sunday newspapers torn in strips. 

Back to use the obstacle course!  The kids look forward to it each year.  We played on it all afternoon. 

Then took to javelin throwing. 

Even the 2 year old.  And a Grandma…

We sing some more and it is time for the parents to come get these kids!!  We’re tired!!
